Honeywell - Important Safety Notice
July 28, 2011
In cooperation with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) in Canada, today we are announcing the voluntary recall of certain electric baseboard and fan heater thermostats (model numbers T4700, CT1950 and CT1957) sold from 2000 to 2007 under the Honeywell and Cadet brand names. The thermostat contains a relay used to turn on the electric baseboard heater that may not function properly, causing the thermostat to overheat.
The electric baseboard and fan heater thermostats are manufactured with self-extinguishing plastic housing. Although the plastic can melt and generate smoke, it shouldn't ignite other materials in the home. Honeywell has sold about 240,000 T4700, CT1950 and CT1957 electric baseboard and fan heater thermostats in Canada. Honeywell has analyzed 16 returned products associated with reports claiming overheating, including varying degrees of smoke damage. There have been no reports of injuries.

How to Identify the T4700, CT1950 and CT1957 Electric Baseboard and Fan Heater Thermostats
These thermostats can be identified by their overall rectangular shape. The models included in the recall are programmable thermostats for controlling electric baseboard heating at 240Vac. "A" models are 2-wire and "B" models are 4-wire. "A" models require a transformer not used in "B" models. Models sold at Retail Outlets have a full cover with four exposed buttons. Models sold by HVAC Contractors have a flip down door that covers the four buttons. There are no electronic differences between the Retail and HVAC Contractor models.

For T4700 models, the model number and date code (date manufactured) is printed on a small label located on the front of the thermostat. The label displays the date code by year and week of manufacture. For example, a date code of "0042" represents a manufacture date of week 42 of the year 2000. If the first two digits are 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, the electric baseboard heater thermostat is included in the safety recall. To determine the date code for your T4700 electric baseboard heater thermostat (1) flip down the door located on the bottom half of the thermostat, (2) look for a small label bearing a series of numbers in the format described above. The date code will be the last four digits on the far right side of the label.
For CT1950 and CT1957 models, the model number and date code (date manufactured) is printed on a small label located on the front of the thermostat. The label displays the date code by year and week of manufacture. For example, a date code of "0042" represents a manufacture date of week 42 of the year 2000. If the first two digits are 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, the electric baseboard heater thermostat is included in the safety recall. To determine the date code for your CT1950 or CT1957 electric baseboard heater thermostat (1) Pop off the faceplate of the thermostat, (2) look for a small label bearing a series of numbers in the format described above. The date code will be the last four digits on the far right side of the label.
No other date codes or electric baseboard or fan heater thermostats are included in this program.
